When should I start fertilizing my lawn in Minnesota?
In Minnesota, the best time to start fertilizing is mid-to-late April when soil temperatures reach about 55°F — the threshold at which cool-season grass roots begin active growth, per University of Minnesota Extension. Lawnworks typically begins its first round of applications in late April and continues through October, applying 5–6 treatments throughout the growing season.
How often should I get my lawn aerated?
Lawnworks recommends core aeration at least once per year, ideally in the fall (September–October) when Minnesota lawns recover fastest, per University of Minnesota Extension. Heavily compacted soils or high-traffic lawns may benefit from both spring and fall aeration. Aeration helps water, nutrients, and air reach the root zone.
When is the best time for weed control treatment?
Pre-emergent weed control should be applied in early spring (April) before crabgrass and other annual weeds germinate. Crabgrass seeds germinate when soil temperatures at the 2-inch depth reach 55°F for several consecutive days, per University of Minnesota Extension. Post-emergent treatments for dandelions and broadleaf weeds work best when weeds are actively growing, typically May through September. Lawnworks includes weed control in its standard fertilizing program.
What does grub control treatment involve?
Grub control involves applying a preventive treatment in June or July before grubs hatch and start feeding on your lawn's root system. More than 5–10 grubs per square foot indicates treatment is needed, per University of Minnesota Extension. If you've noticed brown patches that pull up like carpet, you may already have grub damage. Lawnworks' preventive application protects your lawn for the entire season.
Is your lawn treatment safe for pets and children?
Yes, Lawnworks uses EPA-registered products that are safe when applied as directed. We recommend keeping pets and children off treated areas until the product has dried, which typically takes 1–2 hours depending on weather conditions. Lawnworks always leaves a flag marker so you know when an application has been made.
How soon after treatment should I water my lawn?
It depends on the treatment. For granular fertilizer applications, light watering within 24 hours helps activate the product. For liquid weed control treatments, Lawnworks recommends waiting at least 4–6 hours before watering or mowing to allow the product to be absorbed by the weeds.

What is mosquito control and how does it work?
Lawnworks' mosquito control program uses targeted barrier treatments applied to areas where mosquitoes rest and breed, such as shaded shrubs, tall grass, and fence lines. Professional perimeter treatments reduce mosquito activity by 80–90%, per the National Pest Management Association. Treatments are applied monthly from May through September.
Do I need to be home for lawn treatments?
No, you do not need to be home. Lawnworks will treat your lawn during the scheduled route and leave a door hanger or service note with details about what was applied. You'll also receive an email notification after each service visit is completed.
